Del Vasto chips away at “Glass Ceiling” at Speedway Season Opener

June 24, 2018 - Riverview, NB - CENTRE for Speed

A standing room only crowd was treated to multiple roll overs as well as crashes and spins during the CENTRE for Speed Entertainment Park's “Schools out Celebration” here in Grand Barachois on Saturday Night. The Demolition, Full Contact Racing and Drifting event was highlighted by the the first ever female “Flagman” at the venue and, it is believed, in the region. Toni Del Vasto took the stand for her first time officiating and completed the evening without error breaking another barrier for women in local, regional and (it is believed) National motor sports. The speedway was unable to contact the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame to confirm if this might be a Canadian First. Promoter and GM Tim Wile said “Toni did an outstanding job without need for qualifiers on something that can be a very difficult position to handle. I've done the job myself and i know how hairy it can get up there. There's lots going on and lots to distract you. I'm impressed with her actions and her attitude and im proud that it happened here.”

Results for each of the events on the evening were as follows:

In Drift,it was Rookie Marc Dupuis of Moncton who took the win in his 2018 Chevrolet Camero while Brandon Melanson of Coldbrook, NS took top honours in the Precision Drifting and Marc LeBlanc of Memramcook and Sam Pellerin of Scoudouc tied with 10 pts each in the Freestyle event. In the Burnouts it was LeBlanc who took the sole spot at the top of the podium by winning a tightly contested battle between himself, Pellerin and Dean Leger of Cap Pele. LeBlanc aided his cause with extra points gained when both rear tires on his 2000 Mustang GT exploded simultaneously near the end of his 3:00 minute run.

In Demolition action the Dash for Cash was won by Mark Maillet of Bouctouche in the first session and Stephen Smith of Cocagne in the second round. Maillet also took first place in the Full Contact Race while a controversial Demolition event was won by Steven Gorwill of Moncton who, it was ruled, had made unintentional contact with the drivers door of Conrad Hachey of Tracadie. Hachey and Gorwill battled to the finish with the later ultimately settling for second place. Mark Maillet rounded out the podium in the Demo event. Cars attended from as far away as Antigonish, NS (Bob MacDonald) and Tracadie, NB (Conrad Hachey).

Season Opener Postponed due to Weather

June 2, 2017 - Riverview, NB - It is with extreme disappointment that we must announce the opening event here at CFS and for the MJS Holdings Limited Maritime Mini Stock Tour, originally scheduled for this Saturday, June 3rd, has been postponed. Extremely wet grounds and infield (Demo area) at the Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick facility, along with the forecast of more rain leading into Saturday, have forced officials from both the series and track to postpone the race and Demolition Car Wars events. Management from both the Maritime Mini Stock Tour and the CENTRE For Speed are working to find a make-up date for the 50-lap race and it will be announced when confirmed. Please share with your friends who may have been attending and we hope to see you at the make-up date!
