SPORTSMAN 


DEFINITION

"STOCK"

For the purposes of this rule book and governing events at the speedway, the word "stock" means: - Available on stock passenger car models, from the car manufacturer, installed per the manufacturers specifications, with no modifications, visual or technical, stock appearing, stock performing unless as otherwise noted in this rule book. All items not mentioned are to be Stock.


INTENT

It is the Centre’s intent to provide a class of cars which are an entry level into the "rear wheel drive" classes. These cars will be fast and challenging to drive but less expensive to build, operate and maintain than higher level classes. Theses cars will provide close, exciting competition for the fans and the competitors with the emphasis on the driver, his crew and their setup and driving skills. Where possible emphasis will be placed on protecting the competitors investments in their cars so that they can be easily and inexpensively upgraded to a higher level class at less expense.


STATEMENT OF DIRECTION

Shediac's CENTRE for Speed is renaming the Street Stock division to "Shediac Sportsman" starting with the 2010 season.  The speedway is announcing that it will begin to allow these cars to use aftermarket fibreglass / rubberized components starting in 2011.  Details are TBA for the 2011 season.   


APPROVED MODELS


Any rear wheel drive V8 North American car up to and including 2003 Model year. Approved Street Stock models include full sized Caprice or Crown Vic Chassis shortened to 108" and otherwise built per all 108" rules.   These cars may use either a 305,  350 / 351, or 360 engine per the class rules, below, for that engine size.


SAFETY

A clean drivers fire suit or fire proofed cotton overalls
A minimum 4-point stock car safety harness fastened to frame / roll cage and less than 9 years old
DOT approved helmet
Must have 3 inches clearance between top of drivers helmet and bottom of overhead roll cage bar
All doors bolted or welded shut
All glass, except windshield, removed
A window net in the drivers window
A fire extinguisher (Min. 2 1/2 lb...). It must be securely fastened within easy reach of the driver and must have a recharge date no later than January 1st of the current year.

 

BODY


Stock
Trunk lids and hoods must be securely fastened in place with 2 hood pins
All the interior upholstery must be removed
All holes must be covered with tin (22 gauge recommended)
Flat contoured steel up to 1/4" thick may run from wheel to wheel (any height) to protect body exterior
All body components must be in place at the beginning of the event
Front inner fenders, trunk and rear inner fenders (to the fire wall) may be removed
Rusted frames may be repaired with 2" x 3" square tubing
Sub frame cars may join frame with 2" x 3" square tubing
Doors must be welded or securely bolted shut
Stock rear view mirror is allowed in the Centre of the car windshield, only
Windshield recommedned to be replaced with Lexan

The top 8" of the Windshield must be kept open for the class sponsor.  In addition the space behind the front right wheel and in fron to of the door numbers must be left open for contingency award sponsors.


ROLL CAGE AND ALL OTHER PIPING

All pipes must be 1 1/2" (outside diameter) .095 thickness material.
The roll cage must be electrically welded or have gussets at all joints.
Roll cages must have the space between the bars in the drivers filled in with a minimum of 1/8" thick steel plate.   All cars must have a front and rear tow hook or chain securely fastened to the top side of the cars frame to allow safety crew to remove the car from the track quickly 

Acceptable cages - See Appendix A

 

Roll cage "A" must have a 1/4" exterior steel plate running from behind the front wheel to in front of the rear wheel. Plate must be a minimum of 24" in height and contoured to the cars exterior.  All cages must be per these diagrams.  No more of less tubing or support.



SUSPENSION

Stock.
Minimum ride height for any car is 4"
"
108" Wheelbase Cars with a 350 or larger motor must meet a minimum of 6" ride height.


 

DRIVE SHAFT

Stock.
A Safety hoop must be installed 6" from the front U-Joint.

 

REAR END AND TRANSMISSION

Stock.
Maximum Rear End Gear as follows:
Chev = 342

Ford and Dodge = 355

Rear ends must be unlocked.  No posi-traction or other similer differential allowed. Single wheel drive only.

 

FUEL & FUEL SYSTEM

Stock.
A marine fuel tank or fuel cell recommended
Fuel tank or cell must be completely enclosed in a steel box, in the center of the trunk of the car unless marine or plastic.
Tanks must be installed and secured above the frame as close to the fire wall as possible.
Must have full firewall (22 gauge tin) between the gas tank and the driver at the rear seat.
Regular Pump gas only. Max. 87 Octane.

 
TIRES & WHEELS

Stock
A
ll cars must run used CFS 890 Hoosiers.
Maximum tread depth is 5/32's.
Rims may be no wider than 7 inches, beadset to beadset.   
Maximum track width allowed for any car will be 62" measured from center of the tire to center of the opposing tire.
Right front rim may have a 1/2 inch spacer / reinforcement welded to the inside of the rim for added safety.
Rims should be checked weekly for cracks and replaced as necessary.

EXHAUST
Stock.

A 2" (outside diameter) exhaust pipe may be used from each manifold and must be joined into one 1 and 3/4 inch (outside diameter) collector for a minimum of 12 inches prior to exiting the car.

Exhaust must exit behind the driver and on the passenger side within 1 foot of the passenger side rear wheel

AIR CLEANER and HOUSING

All cars must use either a stock single horn air filer housing and filter or replacement 10" diameter filter number THI*SA66802 housing with a maximum 3" high paper filter

 

ENGINE

Stock
Maximum .30 overbore
No 441 or 487 head castings
Open chambers only

Minimum combustion chamber permitted:
350 Chev 76 cc
360 Mopar 67 cc
351 Ford 60 or 69 cc (Depending on the piston)
Stock OEM equivalent passenger vehicle cam

The GM Crate engine for the class is available.  Call the speedway for details and costing. All crate engines must be purchased from the speedway approved supplier and sealed prior to being received by the racers.

All cars must pull 18" of vacuum on the speedways vacuum or will be disqualified.


Distributor must be stock OEM including all springs and weights. 
Tachometer may only be used during practice and must be removed or have a section of wire at least 6" in length that is completely removed for competition.  Wire may not be simply disconnected.
305 and 307 may install Melling HP Cam part # 22200 (305 / 307).  
Ford and Dodge 302 - 318 ci call 388-2415 for your allowed cam part #



CARB

Unmodified Holley 500 cfm #4412 2 BBL or stock 2 BBL carb.

 

WEIGHTS

All cars must weigh no less than 3600 lbs. with the driver in position at the end of the race except 305, 302, and 318 cars which may weight a minimum of 3400 lbs
