Speed Sport Draw Winners Announced

April 26, 2008 - CFS would like to thank all those who entered the draws for the PEPSI Race Adventure and Winged Outlaws League Membership at the CENTREs Radical Speed Sport booth this past weekend. Response was no less than overwhelming.  The winners of the first place prizes were - Chris Hicks of Sackville, NB for the PEPSI Race Adventure and Matt Rodgers of Smithtown for the 2008 Winged Outlaws League Membership.  Guys, please contact the speedway to claim your prizes!

Thanks again, and we'll see you at the CENTRE.

CFS Announces Increased Payouts

April 24, 2008 - CENTRE for Speed is happy to announce an increase in payouts for regular competitors.  Teams in each class who do not miss more than 2 points championship events will receive an increase in their overall purse of 10%.  The increase is only available to regular competitors.

In addition CFS is leveling the playing field for all teams by recognizing that all competitors have, or should have, similar costs (excepting travel) by spreading the payouts more evenly through the field and reducing the wide variance between first and last.  This will help insure that all racers receive similar funding from the race track, regardless of finish position.

The speedway expects to make additional announcements on more driver incentives, cost reduction, and expense sharing soon.

Local Racing Loses a Friend

Apr 21, 2008 - The CENTRE is saddened to report that Steven Biddington of Shediac Cape passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, at the Moncton Hospital.  Most of you will remember Steven as a top competitor in the Sportsman Class and a friend.  He was a father, son, brother and husband as well as a local businessman in the community.   Steven was a people person and he will be missed greatly by all of us.   He was 42 years old.

Stevens funeral will be held at  St Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Shediac on Wednesday at 2 PM.

Former Top Sportsman Registers for '08

Apr 14, 2008 - CFS is pleased to announce that Jim Duke, former multi time speedway champ has registered his number for the 2008 Season at the CENTRE.  Duke (#84) will join brother Dan (#50), another top sportsman driver in the region, for the 2008 CFS Sportsman Season.  Both brothers had new cars out for testing last season and expect to compete in the 2008 Points Championship Sesaon.

The Duke announcement caused some concern for the speedway as it was forced to rename the speedway dog ("Duke") to "Larry-Duke" in order to minimize any potential confusion during CFS Events.  When asked about how he felt about having his name changed in order to accomodate the new competitors, "Larry-Duke" had no comment.  All three, however, are expected to be in attendance for the "Spring Shakedown and Season Preview" on May 18th!

Top Competitors Moving Up in 2008

April 6, 2008 - CFS has confirmed that several top competitors in lower divisions are intending to move to the Sportsman Class for 2008. Other competitors expected to register their intent to move up in '08 include Gaetan Boudreau (TigerCat Champ for '07) and Don Marcoux (Speedway Top Rookie in 2007).

Local Dealer Recognizes Industry Innovators

March 31, 2008 - Lounsbury Chevrolet on behalf of GM Canada recently recognized two local Street Stock competitors for their industry leadership in motor sports.  Remi Gaudet and Marc Sherwood were each recognized with a cash bonus from GM and Lounsbury in recognition of an industry first in Atlantic Canada.  The two Stock Car competitors were the first to run a sealed GM crate engine in a Street Stock class.   Gaudet was the class champion and between the two competitors they won more than 50% of the feature events for the class at Greater Moncton's CENTRE for Speed located 4 kms from Parlee Beach in Grand Barachois.

The Asians are coming!

March 10, 2008 - Just as you thought everybody had all the sponsors tied up Hughes Motor Sports and other enterprising young race teams are opening the door to a whole new world of potential sponsors.  The Hughes Team announced late last week that they have secured a new primary sponsorship for the 2008 CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour season.

Through sponsor, Pauley Equipment Inc, located in Prince Edward Island, Hughes has secured C G LOADERS and BOTO TIRES."I think both parties are really excited , we cant wait to show them what a great medium racing can be for their marketing needs. We think that it's a perfect fit, and look forward to promoting the C.G. line of heavy equipment and BOTO tires",  says Chris Hughes , driver for the team.

CG Loaders and Boto Tires are both Chinese manufactures and along with the rest of the South East Asian market they present a huge opportunity for racers and sponsors to expose their product to a highly brand loyal marketplace of racing.  Congratulations to the Hughes team!  So, if you haven't done it already, looks like polishing up on those sponsorship proposals and your Chinese might not be a bad idea!  Everybody needs  good. cost effective, marketing.  Even the Chinese.

Laperle Named “Best Northeast Touring Racer” at SpeedwayEXPO

March 3, 2008 - West Springfield, Mass and Shediac, NB - ACT stock car driver and Atlantic Championships competitor Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC was named the “Best Northeast Touring Racer” at the second annual SpeedwayEXPO trade show, Sunday, March 2, at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. Laperle recovered from a life threatening blood infection last
year to win a pair of events and the Série ACT Castrol championship. He also won twice on the ACT Late Model
Tour: the Summer Sizzler 200 at Ontario’s Kawartha Speedway and the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl at Vermont’s
Thunder Road.  To end the season LaPerle qualified first on the pole at the Atlantic Stock Car Championships in Shediac and developed a healthy lead over the field in the event until his car developed a rear brake leak and he was forced to retire for the day.  LaPerle is a hopeful at the 2008 version of the event.

Laperle won the Best Northeast Touring Racer award over some of the continent’s finest short track racers,
including NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion and current Craftsman Truck Series driver Donny Lia of Jericho, NY;
four-time Northeast Midget Association (NEMA) Champion Ben Seitz of Pocasset, MA; six-time Mr. DIRTcar Champion
Brett Hearn of Kinnelon, NJ; and International Supermodified Association (ISMA) Champion Chris Perley of Rowley,
MA, the award’s inaugural winner.

“What an honor it is to win that award,” said a shocked Laperle. “I found out that I had been nominated a
while ago, and when I saw who I was up against, I sort of forgot about it because I didn’t think I would have a
chance to win. It means a lot to me to be thought of that highly as a race car driver.”
“Patrick deserved to win the Best Northeast Touring Racer award,” said Speedway Illustrated Editor Karl
Fredrickson. “He and his family team are hard workers, good racers, and fun people to be around. Speedway
Illustrated would like to congratulate Patrick Laperle on his success.”
